“DREAMS WERE PROMISED AND THOSE PROMISES WERE BROKEN AND I REALISED THAT IF I REALLY WANT THIS, I HAVE TO FIGHT FOR IT. “

Clyryll Mash, better known by his moniker Mist comes from Eersterust, Pretoria. Rap music became an interest in the late stages of primary school when he got introduced to the music of the controversial Eminem. Mist recently caught the country’s attention by recording one of the biggest viral remixes “Skhot so hard”, a remake of JayZ and Kanye West’s Ni**as in Paris. Off the momentum of that track, Mist dropped his solo mixtape #Hastags and recently dropped his official break out single, the Junior Taurus produced “Aerobics”. The constant work ethic is paying off as he slowly gains the attention of a new audience. He is now signed to CapCity records/Purple City and working on his solo debut.

“WELCOME TO HELL BLOCK, SOSHA”

The South African rap world is at a crossroads. With a new generation of rappers on display, Mohay10 (real name Katlego Mosomane) is poised to wake up a dormant industry and cement his name in this game. But more than that with the forthcoming release of his debut album he hopes to change the tide of current rap music, moving it towards a direction where raps are real and a true reflection of the township youth they seek to represent. Hailing out of Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, Mohay10 looks to bring the hopes, struggles and triumphs of his hood to the fore in his music.

Blaklez

Blaklez

“IF IT LEAVES MY MOUTH KNOW THAT IT CAME FROM WITHIN”

Blaklez is a performing artist and songwriter. His first point of distinction from his rapping peers is a raspy voice wind surfing over an outlandish flow. He initially gained notoriety as one half of the Anvils; carving his name with stellar appearances on The Anvlis’ Independence EP and Slikour’s Ventilation Vol 2 amongst others. 2011 would see him drop his much acclaimed mixtape Stop Complaining: Start Entertaining which spawned a slew of hits further cementing his reputation as a hugely skilled rapper. However, Showtime or Austin 25 or whatever moniker you choose to address him is more than another skilled rapper. He is a performing artist and a songwriter.

N'veigh

N'Veigh

“THE LYRICIST. THE PERFORMER. THE MUSICIAN.”

Mamelodi’s very own N’veigh has a history with this music. One half of the Anvils and a revered lyricist, he has shown a dedication to this music that few can match. Much has been said about his talent behind the mic, and much more will be said about his talent in future. Battle championships, group shake-ups, car accidents, label switches, radio hits, brand endorsements, dishonoured contracts, international features and a new lease on his musical life have brought us to this point. Get familiar with N’veigh. The lyricist. The performer. The musician. The fabled debut album ‘7:30 – I’ve lost my mind’ is upon us.

PdotO

PdotO

“MIND OVER MATTER, MONEY OVER ALL. MY SPIRIT UNDER GOD MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FALL”

In contrast to the shallow chants and braggadocio of most Hip Hop artists, PdotO built his brand around honest lyrics. His verses reflect his deep thinking and emotional intelligence. Born Siphelele Mnyande, the actor, writer and performing artist made the move from his native Eastern Cape to Pretoria where he has been steadily building a following with a series of projects dropped online. ’Street Novelty’, ‘The BluMurda tape’ and ‘Mind over Matter: The EP’ have catapulted PdotO into one of the most anticipated debutants in the game. Work on his debut, eerily titled Devilz Playground, is at an advanced stage.

Tha Vigilant

Tha Vigilant

In 2001 Khathu Raphulu aka Tha Vigil-Ant was pursuing a law degree at a top university. When he came to the realisation that law was not his calling, he put his studies on pause and went to study sound engineering instead. His early influences include Dr Dre, Timbaland and Ice Cube. In 2008 he would partner up with Junior Taurus and form CapCity Records, an indie imprint that would allow them to put out fresh music without the bureaucracy that comes with working on a major. He has since lent his signature synth laced production to the likes of Supa, Supremo (Hidden Force) and Spex as well as handling the bulk of the in-house production for CapCity Records.

Junior Taurus

Juniour Taurus

Junior Taurus is an accomplished song-writer, producer, dj and sound engineer. He has cross-genre production skills having done hip hop, kwaito, house, techno and r&b. In 2008 he co-founded CapCity Records and released a limited edition dance ep called “Searching for it” through the indie imprint. All the tracks on the ep were written, recorded, produced and mixed by him. The disc, which is the first instalment of a trilogy, went a long way to turning some ears in his direction. In recent times he has busied himself with in-house production work but expect news of the release of the rest of the “Searching” trilogy.
